A Walk To Remember :
It’s not everyday that you find yourself in the middle of a National Park. Kudremukh, once an iron ore mining town, is a hidden gem in the Chikmagalur district of Karnataka. The region is known for its rich low grade magnetite soil which doesn’t allow any plant growth. As a result you will see grasslands everywhere. In fact there were places green beyond measure! The presence of Shola plantation is what makes this place unique.
“Agar firdaus bar roo-e zameen ast, Hameen ast-o hameen ast-o hameen ast”
“If there is paradise on face of the Earth,
It is this, It is this, It is this”
The mountains are calling. Kudremukh it is!!
If spending a day at a homestay in the middle of a national park makes you feel high, then Kudremukh is where your next destination lies!
Technology has taken vehicles to the next level. Today when we talk about speed everyone is busy talking about Mercedes, BMWs and Ferraris. But nothing beats a bumpy jeep ride with strangers in the midst of nature. There’s no traffic jam as well. The concept of jeep rides also strengthens the bonding between strangers. You must
have seen the advertisement “Fevicol’s Bond” 😉
Then there’s something about waterfalls that always makes you feel happy to say the least.
At first you give us energy and enthusiasm to start our day with the most amazing sunrise everyday!!
And then you come flowing in the form of lovely streams and waterfalls. You were there to quench our thirst. You were there to rejuvenate us with your lovely drops. Dear water you are incredibly amazing!
And then you treated us with some of the most stunning landscapes of our lives. Observing nature for prolonged period has a healing effect on our eyes. We are still not sure about the scientific evidence of this fact but it does have a soothing effect not just on eyes but also on our heart, soul and mind.
Just like “You can’t have a rainbow after a little rain”. Similarly you can’t have a morning without night. Nature has its own ways..
Cz Life is a Trek :
Right from the starting the walk was as pleasant as possible. There are some treks which test your character while there are some which rejuvenate you to the fullest. Kudremukh is one such trek!
A walk through the middle of a national park is extra-ordinary in itself!!
While walking through nature, we realize what we are. It doesn’t just test our physical endurance. But it tests our ability to adjust, adapt and then improvise.
And then there are instances that try to shatter you in pieces. I am talking about the above sign-board. After already walking for like 5 kms, when something like this appears in the middle of no-where, its a relief and sadness at the same time.
“The relief lies in the fact that there exists signals of mankind 🙂
The sadness is the fact that we still need to walk for 5 more kilometers to reach the top..!!!”
“Kudremukh is nature’s gift to mankind. When you feel that you are exhausted, these perennial streams are present in every few kilometers to calm your senses”
So drink as much water as you wish to. And then walk again.
A Trekker’s delight + Camper’s heaven + Nature’s Retreat

Celebrating Rakshabandhan at 6214 feet!!!
“Now that’s a classic example of we as Indians celebrating our rich culture wherever we go..!!
Aww..!! Just look at the happiness level 😀
A wise man once said :
” Whatever happens at the bon-fire, stays at the bon-fire”
A letter to dear Trekkies :
Take pride in yourselves. It’s not just about the trek. Its about the fact that you pushed yourselves to the fullest. You became each others support system when it became tough. You celebrated your culture by celebrating Rakshabandhan not in your drawing room this time, but it was still more fun! Some of you came all the way from states like Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan, Kolkata, Tamil Nadu and Goa and still behaved like family. Of course there were tough times when you sprained your leg, but you completed the trek without even stopping. And since you took care of Nature by not littering in between, Nature took care of you at night by not spoiling the fun of your perfect Camp-fire. And then he came from the clouds in the form of Full Moon and provided you peace.
Thank You Bangalore Mountaineering Club for organizing everything in the most amazing manner!!
That’s it from Kudremukh, dear readers. Will try to present another beautiful destination to you all as soon as possible. Till then just keep doing what you love and one more thing :
